When the fashion yearbook closes on the '00s, this decade will be remembered as the rise of the "it"
jeans.
It started in the early '00s with Seven for All Mankind. The super-flattering quality of these
jeans - often referred to as "the great ass pants" - deemed them worthy of their sky high price tag. And
with them, a hierarchy of denim status was born. On the heels of Seven came Paper Denim & Cloth, Frankie
B., Joie, Tag, and a host of other lines that would make your head - and your wallet - spin.
But now that we've passed mid-decade mark, we say: Enough already with the "it" jeans! Today, with a
great ass pant to flatter any figure, you no longer need to chase the newest brand name. Instead, just
hit your favorite department store or boutique, and you are sure to find your perfect pair of denim. So
this season, let's focus on what's really important: today's trendiest cuts and washes.
Neat-o Keen-o
Perfect for a casual office milieu, or a night on the town, the trouser cut dresses up denim with
little to no effort at all. Team this wide leg jean with a smart top and a pair of heels ... and viola!
This season, look for trouser cuts from Joe's Jeans, Juicy, Paige Denim, Citizens of Humanity and many
more.

Uber-Distression
Also in? Distressed and faded denim replete with holes and patches. It's kind of like the hippie look,
but with a much, much lower rise, form-fitting legs, and a much higher price tag. Among the labels
showcasing this look: Hudson, True Religion, and Chip & Pepper.

Loosen Up
Low-rise is here to stay. But designers are starting to loosen up the crotch and thigh areas to bring
back the ever popular "boyfriend cut." Looser and more forgiving, these jeans can be dressed up or down.
Among those bringing back the boyfriend jean: AG Jeans and Yanuk.
