Fashion from Epsiode 23: Belles of the Ball
by Karla Stevens

Hello fashionistas and fans! It's hard to believe that it's Prom time again on The O.C. Tonight Marissa and Summer were the belles of the ball. And in my opinion, they bumped style at the prom up a few notches.

Under the O-Sea - the aquatic themed fete - was definitely the hot spot. When Marissa floated in, she looked like a million bucks in a white BCBG number. The style hook - she shook things up a bit by wearing a knee length dress instead of the typical floor length gown. We love that rebel spirit! And Summer really knocked our socks off by showing up in a vintage pink and white silk organza 1970's Givenchy gown. I have to admit, I fell in love with that dress the minute I saw it.

According to our friends over at The Way We Wore, my favorite vintage clothing boutique in town and the hot spot the gown came from, all the cool sophisticated high school gals are combing the place for the splashiest vintage gowns they can find. Of course it's all about making a statement at the prom, and this year, individuality seems to be really high on the chic factor. It doesn't matter what era you pick from, you can be sure no one else at the prom is going to have the same dress.

Later in the evening when we watch Summer get crowned the Prom Queen of the O-Sea, she dons a sparkling tiara made of pearls and diamonds from Mikimoto. That really took my breath away! My advice to you: Find your inner prom queen and go with it. Marissa and Summer both went with something really glam and really different. Don't be afraid to shop vintage for something really unique.

You may even want to hunt around in your Mom or your Grandmother's closet for something really snappy (and really affordable). It's definitely a good place to start paying attention if you're looking for ideas. Special party dresses are usually the ones that get cherished and saved over the years. Or pull a Marissa and wear a knee length number. Viva la prom ladies!

I want to extend a huge thanks to all those hard working designers out there that came up with many of the lovely prom gowns we used on the show (if you watch closely, there are tons of really amazing prom dresses worn in the background). Thanks to Morgan and Company, Flor de Noche, JS Group International, Debra Rochelle, NYDress, ABS Schwartz, BCBG, Alyce Design, Jessica McClintock. Also a big shout out to Friar Tuxedo for the making our dudes look super cool.
