Fashion from Episode 21: Poko Pano Bikinis
by Karla Stevens

Hello fashionistas and fans! Bring on the itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, Poko Pano, polka dot bikini!

We can thank the Grandparents at Leisure World for bringing Seth, Ryan and the super sexy Mary Sue (aka former model Jamie King) together for tonight's South Beach Spring Break extravaganza. And for most of the episode we see Mary Sue sporting a super spicy Poko Pano bikini. Hold the whip cream! The style she's wearing is called "the American" and it sure is a head turner.

I put in a quick call to Amy Snyder over at Poko Pano to get the dish on these sexy suits. She told me that after working at Roxy for a few years she jumped over to Poko Pano and picked up the North American rights. Thanks to her marketing expertise, these chic bikinis are being sold at surf and swim shops and cool boutiques everywhere. She told me she called Paola Robba - the amazingly talented designer who started the company out of her garage fifteen years ago - and when she heard the suits would be on the O.C. she went nuts. Turns out people are crazy for the O.C. in Brazil too!

The coolest thing about these suits is they come in a bunch of different styles and they have wonderful patterns and detailing which make them unusual. Even now that they've hit our beaches, they still retain that Brazilian sensibility and that's what Snyder loves about it. "The kind of girl who wears a Poko Pano suit is sassy and really stylish and she's comfortable with herself." And a great added bonus: the swim suits are made of super Brazilian lycra - the sort of material that really stays with you - even if you get hit by a wave. "The suits have great stretch and they offer lift as well," Snyder said. "That's tough to find."

My advice to you: Don't buy just one bikini, buy a few and mix and match the tops and bottoms. You'll feel like you've got a suit for every occasion. Also, don't be afraid to throw on a cute skirt and a sheer tunic and wear the bikini out on the town. This suit makes a big enough fashion statement that it's a shame just to wear it just at the beach or by the pool. If you're in the O.C., you can snap one up at Laguna Surf and Sport or Diane's.
