Fashion from Episode 19: Rochelle Best Creations
by Karla Stevens

Hello fashionistas and fans! In tonight's episode, "The Rager", we see Ryan, Seth and Summer show up for Trey's surprise party at Marissa's mansion. They're all ready to party, and Summer - for the oh-so-hot event - threw on her cream knit knee length dress and her cute vintage cowboy boots. Of course, no outfit is complete without accessories, and she made a real statement with a Rochelle Best necklace made of knotted leather, wood and turquoise beads. Let's hear it for the home team!

My fantastic new set costumer, Rochelle Best, moonlights as a jewelry designer and her stunning creations add a punch to any outfit. I am constantly amazed at the brilliant talent and flair the members of my crew have. From riding waves to furniture dealing to jewelry making, the talents they have up their sleeves constantly impress me.

A while back Best was working on a film as a costumer and she was asked to create a piece of jewelry for an actor. It was such a success that the actor encouraged her to create her own line. "I'm completely self taught, but jewelry has always been a love," she said. "Growing up in Switzerland, I was always surrounded by beautiful stones and amazing pieces of jewelry and that's where I think my inspiration comes from." Her favorite ingredients: colored sapphires, coral and tourmaline. Most of her glam pieces are made from 14-karat gold or 14-karat gold fill, although her more casual line, which we see tonight, is made from leather and wood and simpler stones. "Initially the necklace we see tonight was designed to be a belt and then a friend told me how great it looked wrapped around a few times as a necklace," she said.

She also incorporates seashells into the casual line for a really chic beachy feel - perfect for the O.C. This line starts at $75 and goes to about $150, which is a real bonus. You can snap up Rochelle Best pieces at Upstairs, the hot little boutique on Melrose just across the way from Fred Segal, and she also sells in Tokyo, Milan and Zurich, if you happen to be jet setting. And if you're not going to be near any of these exotic locales, call direct at 323-833-3976.
