Fashion from Episode 17: Jellies Are Back!
by Karla Stevens

Hello fashionistas and fans! Holy peanut butter and jelly, they're back!

Tonight we see Marissa with a bit of a spring in her step wearing that good old-fashioned eighties staple, the jelly shoe. I remember a vivid tantrum in the mall when I was thirteen or so - I just couldn't understand why my mother wouldn't let me have a pair in every color. I have to admit, I was thrilled to see that they were hitting the shoe stores all over again. This time around I'm sporting a credit card, and I will get a pair in every color.

I put a quick call into my pals at the Melissa shoe company and I got the real dish on this amazing comeback. It is called the Melissa Gallery Collection and they have hired all sorts of high profile types to help design the shoe line. The Campana Brothers, the handsome design team from Brazil, partnered with the shoe company to create the fabulous Campana low that we see on Marissa. The shoe company is currently celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary. This time around the jellies are completely recyclable and the company actually hired chemists to create a softer, more durable plastic that breathes and feels better around your toes. And the added bonus - no more sweaty feet!

The Campana Brothers are famous for their cutting edge architectural furniture and design. They currently have a traveling design show and the Campana shoe is actually in the exhibit. Not only can you snap the jellies up on Shopintuition.com, you can also find them in The Wilsonian Museum of Art in Florida and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The original jelly inspiration came from French fishing villages. Fisherman realized that the plastic netting used to cover wine bottles also made great foot wear for sloshing around in the water. That's when the jelly was born.

My advice to you ladies: Keep it simple. It's all about the jelly. The color is vibrant enough to stand alone - pair them with a simple Capri pant, a colorful tank and a vintage headscarf and call it a day. And although sweaty feet really aren't an issue this time around, they look awfully cute with a pair of little white socks.
