Fashion from Episode 15: Little Jackets
by Karla Stevens
Hello fashionistas and fans! Spring has sprung in the O.C. and we see both Marissa and Summer sporting cute little jackets tonight. If you end up getting locked in the mall you might as well look cute, right? Those little jackets were all the rage on the runway, from Marc Jacobs to Miu Miu to everyone in between. The great thing about a little jacket, in my opinion, is there's always an occasion to throw it on and strut your stuff. And lately, the jackets have gone from conservative to funky in an O.C. minute.
Tonight we see Marissa wearing a Coco Kliks striped cotton jacket with unfinished edges and a sparkly sequined flower appliqué. I put a call into Coco Kliks and managed to get her husband and business partner extraordinaire on the horn. "Little jackets have been hot for awhile and they will continue to be," said Laurent Nahoum. "That jacket was part of a collection that Coco designed around glamour and South America in the 1940's," he said.
Born in Thailand, Coco traveled the world with her scientist parents and eventually attended up the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. She met her husband in Paris when she was honing her haute couture skills, designing t-shirts that were such a hit, a little business was born. They up and moved to Los Angeles, placed the t-shirts in Fred Segal and American Rag and the rest is history. "It's all in the details and the finishing and the stitching. The clothing has great depth," Laurent said.
My advice to you: Run out and pick up one of those cute little jackets and pair it with just about anything in your closet. And don't be afraid to use those home ec skills and add a little detailing yourself. A jacket from a thrift store can be completely updated with a nice appliqué or some beading. Vavoom, a fresh look whether you're out on the town or locked in the mall. If you love Coco's work hit her website at www.cocokliks.com.
