Fashion from Episode 13: Surfer Dude Chic

Hello fashionistas and fans! In tonight's episode we see Seth in pretty rough shape. Love sick all the way around. As far as I can tell he hasn't left the couch in days. To be honest, I'm almost sick of looking at him. When I thought about what might look great under that ratty robe of his, bingo, it came to me. Holy flying pig, Batman, it's the "pig on a wing" t-shirt from the coolest surfer dudes this side of The OC. It definitely adds a little snap to an otherwise dreary day in Seth?s life.
Monument Clothing, based in Costa Mesa, is basically a 1500 square foot raw cinderblock space with a lot of cool vibes and a good post-surfing work ethic. They knock out a line of super cool surf and skate wear, and they claim they're not interested in catering to the masses. Dave Matt and his surfing buddy Shane Beschen, a professional surfer on the World Championship Tour (Rock On, Shane!) started up the overnight success just last year.
According to Dave, their company motto is "Versus the Masses," and that pretty much says it all. "We're not interested in followers. We're putting out clothes for dudes that really like going against the grain," he said. The concept for the flying pig came from their art director Aaron Martin. "He's a freak, but he comes up with the craziest, coolest stuff," said Dave. "That flying pig isn't our best seller, but it's the quirk factor that makes it so cool." And I think that applies to Seth, don't you?
In my travels around The OC, I realized that all the hot surf and skate shops are carrying the "pig on a wing" t-shirt. Jack's, Becker, Hobie and Beachworks are all sporting the Monument line.
My tip: I personally can't get enough of their graphic t-shirts paired with a cool pair of board shorts, or your favorite pair of vintage 501s. Add a pair of thongs and you're good to go in my book. And for you fahionistas, put on your cutest pink bikini top, pucca shells, and tie that "pig on a wing" up around your waist, sexy girl! Pair it with a denim mini and shout "Surf's up!!" You're ready to roll.
So, Seth, wallow wallow wallow, keep wearing flying pigs and tune back into The Matrix. We love you anyway.
