Hello fashionistas and fans! Well, it's Chrismukkah time again in The O.C. So get ready to spin the dreidel under the mistletoe. Or in this case, patch up some relationships gone awry. The Cohen's annual Chrismukkah party, usually the height of interfaith appreciation and good old-fashioned holiday revelry, turned into a hair-raising tell-all. And what better way to heal thy wounds than to dawn a yarmuclaus.
In an effort to woo Ryan and the Cohen family, Lindsay spent an afternoon putting together a crafty mix of felt and fur to create what we now know as the yarmuclaus. Behind the scenes at The O.C., all the credit goes to executive producer and creator Josh Schwartz who dreamt up the yarmuclaus and hopes it will be the hottest holiday must-have. According to a recent United Jewish Communities survey, there are 5.2 million Jewish people in the U.S. today, and in the past five years nearly half have married non-Jewish spouses. You do the math.
There are quite a few folks out there looking for cool and ingenious ways of blending two different faiths. The O.C. is betting the yarmuclaus may just do the trick. I got busy at the sewing machine with The O.C.'s favorite tailor, Mike Tereschuk, on our first prototype. It wasn't as easy as we thought. At first it was too pointy, the next moment too furry, then too round. We thought it might even be too red, and it took more than a few tries to get the pom-pom to scale. We finally came up with a seamless homage to both faiths. In our opinion it's pure holiday perfection.
So when is it appropriate to wear the yarmuclaus? Throughout both Hanukkah and Christmas, which extends the season in a fabulous way. How about the holiday tree lighting, or at your friend's latke fest? Why not the seasonal corporate party or Christmas Eve at the neighbors? It goes just as well with a glittery dress or a tux, and don't be afraid to toss it on with jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of flip-flops á la The O.C. And whatever your personal preference may be, make sure to don your yarmuclaus with great style and holiday cheer. Merry Chrismukkah to all! |
