As "The O.C.'s" head makeup artist, Joni Powell naturally loves experimenting with new products. Surprisingly, many of Joni's current skincare and cosmetic picks are not from some expensive, Julie Cooper-Nichol-type boutique but the plain-old drugstore.
"High-end companies spend a lot of their money on fancy compacts and cool mirrors, but you don't have to spend more to get good quality," notes the beauty pro, who especially adores the affordable Neutrogena line for use on the show's cast. "It's my favorite drugstore line because of the selection," she notes.
So what's in the expert's makeup bag these days? Joni makes sure the hot men of "The O.C." use Neutrogena Razor Defense Daily Face Scrub to prep their skin for shaving and soften stubble. She also recommends the line's Power Scrub Deodorant Bar, a body cleanser and washcloth all in one - "Peter [Gallagher] loves this, and so do the other guys" - and slathers her actors with Triple Protect Face Lotion SPF 20 for outdoor scenes. "It has a nice, manly scent," reports Joni.

When it comes to the set's fab females, the pro gets everyone's glow going with Neutrogena self-tanners and bronzers. "We use tanning products on everyone for that ‘O.C.' look," says Joni, who recommends that those who want to look like they've basked in the Newport rays start with Neutrogena Pre Sunless Scrub (exfoliation will help achieve an all over even color). Next, use the line's MicroMist Tanning Sunless Spray, " applies like an airbrush spray for hands-free application and gives you color in two to four hours, comes in two shades and is foolproof."
 Joni's finishing touch is to apply Healthy Skin Blends Natural Radiance Bronzer to cheekbones, chin and forehead - or anywhere the sun would naturally hit your face. "I love this look on Rachel and Mischa," says the makeup artist, "it gives the illusion of a beautiful tan without the sun." Joni's last tip for those looking to copy the cast's perfect complexions? "Wear sunscreen every day under your makeup!"
