Why The Night Moves?
"We first used Bob Seger's 'Night Moves' in season one, for our Valentine's Day show, which is one of my favorite all-time episodes. It was our Julie and Luke seduction theme (and Julie and Luke was one of my all-time favorite story lines). Now we reveal that "Night Moves" is in the Cooper family sing-a-long songbook, as Julie and Kaitlin do a kickass duet to calm their nerves. [Also] In the episode, the night moves literally, in the earthquake; the characters all move from one place to another; the story is, hopefully, a little moving…"
— Stephanie Savage (Exec. Producer), Writer of The Night Moves
RyRy has a Booboo
Something between all hell breaking loose and another airing of High School Musical!, Taylor does not exactly react to the earthquake calmly. This scares Ryan away from telling her about his injury. Seth is stuck getting him to the hospital. Like his comical alter ego, The Ironist, Seth surprisingly saves the day. A shard of glass may be protruding from Ryan's back, but Seth doesn't sweat it. Discussions of four seasons worth of Ryan's fisticuffs and a failed attempt at changing a tire later, Seth sucks it up and comes to the rescue. He luckily locates Daryl in a nearby park. And what will go down as one of the best barters since the Louisiana Purchase (open your history books and look it up), Seth trades the keys to the Range Rover for a rickety shopping cart. Post "vehicle" trade, Frank Atwood spots the twosome on the side of the road, negating the shopping cart's usefulness. Nonetheless, the Range Rover is now in a better place — a receptacle of recyclable cans.
Flavor of the Month
Gary the Ice Cream Guy now stands as the second creepiest character in the history of the show. Luckily, he trails Oliver by a handgun. His actions — lying about the pier's collapse and a supposed asthma attack — are so low, even Kaitlin is impressed. She seems to find attraction in his desperation (if you do not see the similarities to her old sister here, you suck). While Will brought size and musical skills to the table, the Ice Cream Guy offers a tremendous knowledge of sherbets and exceptional scooping abilities. When all is said and done, a way to a young woman's heart is an endless supply of ice cream, not the ability to play the flute. And what do I know? Maybe the Ice Cream Guy plays better tonsil hockey than his Tuttness. Even Frank Atwood, not an easy person to impress, remarks how much he admires Ice Cream Guy's audaciousness. Now Frank might not even know what "audaciousness" means, so lets just say he admires Ice Cream Guy's "awesomeness." Congratulations, I'm rescinding my previous statement: Gary the Ice Cream Guy, the creepiest, awesomest character in the history of "The O.C."
That Silly Rabbit
Summer's endless pursuit of Pancakes evokes memories of the great cinematic heroines of yore: Norma Rae, Cher Horowitz, Daria Morgendorfer. She will not give up until she has her plump bunny in her hands, even if she has to brave an attic full of awkwardly named skeletons. Taylor is also game. So much so she shoots a suspected looter. Ends up being her annoying (yet attractive) mother, but who cares. Eventually Summer locates Pancakes and rushes him to the hospital. While thousands of injured humans wait their turn, Summer convinces the orderly to see Pancakes immediately. A rabbit has not received this sort of star treatment since the Who Shot Roger Rabbit? premiere. Her motherly antics prove she may be ready for that faux pregnancy. She shall have a daughter and call her Waffles. Or maybe she'll be a little more creative: IHOP Jr.
Song of the Episode
